After 25 years in the corporate world, Richard Vandewalle embraced painting following a major health scare that reframed long-held ambitions. In 2024, at age 53, he committed fully to his practice, discovering that painting is defined not by outcomes but by process. Working primarily in oils, his approach favors openness, broad gestures, and continual revision. Layers of change remain visible, reflecting a belief in painting—and life—as fluid, evolving, and shaped by attention, memory, and emotion.
